    History

    History

     

     

    Faculty of Sports Sciences, as a department affiliated with Fırat University Faculty of Science and Letters, started education in 1992 under the name of "Department of Physical Education and Sports". It had its first graduates in the 1995-1996 academic year.
    In 1997, it was transformed into the School of Physical Education and Sports in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers and the decision of the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education. It was restructured as the "Faculty of Sports Sciences" by the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the official gazette in 2014.


    Faculty Department

    There are four programs within the Faculty of Sports Sciences: Physical Education and Sports Teaching, Sports Management, Coaching Education and Recreation Education departments. The education period in all programs at the faculty is 8 semesters. The language of instruction is Turkish.


    Academic Staff

    As of 2025, there will be a total of 33 academic staff in our faculty, including 18 Professors, 9 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professor, 2 Assistant Research Assistants, 3 Research Assistants and 1 Lecturer. Our national boxer Yakup KILIÇ, who won the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, is in our academic staff with the title of Associate Professor.


    Hall and Classrooms

    Our faculty has 15 classrooms, a Massage Hall built for applied courses, a Table Tennis Hall, a Grass Football Field, a Synthetic Football Field, an Athletics Track, a Multi-Purpose Sports Hall, an Equipment Gymnastics Hall, a Step-Aerobics Hall, a Conditioning Hall and Tennis Courts.
    There are also activities such as Mountaineering, Tennis, Skiing, Swimming, Folk Dances, Boxing, Camping and Nature Walks.
